NLMK Launches Polyurethane Coated Products with a Thickness above 50 μm

NLMK adds a new premium product in its pre-painted range: polyurethane topcoat with a thickness of 60 μm.

This product is ideal for applications with heightened requirements for corrosion and chemical resistance — from fencing and roadside acoustic screens to agricultural structures — as well as for projects where the polymer layer thickness is specified by construction documentation.

The required properties are achieved due to the polyurethane coating, which provides a high-strength textured surface resistant to mechanical damage and aggressive environments, both acids and alkalis.

Advantages of the coating:

· Resistance to mechanical damage (Clemen scratch test) — 2–4 times better than standard PE,

· UV resistance — RUV 4,

· Corrosion resistance — 2 times or more higher than standard PE.

Compared with traditional powder coatings widely used in road infrastructure products, particularly noise barriers, the new coating provides superior elasticity and adhesion to the zinc layer. This significantly extends service life for products operating under vibration (e.g., roadside barriers) and where coating is subject to mechanical damage.

Key technical specifications:

· Steel thickness — 0.6–2.0 mm,

· Strip width — 900–1600 mm,

· Nominal coating thickness — 60 μm,

· Zinc coating class — 275 (other classes available on demand),

· Available colours — RAL 1018, 2003, 7035, 7040 (other colours available on request).

Application case study

A manufacturer of roadside noise barriers requested steel with enhanced resistance to aggressive environments for use along highways. At the customer’s request, NLMK supplied 0.8 × 613 mm product with a 60 μm polyurethane coating in RAL 1018, 2003, 7035, and 7040. The product has been added to the regular range.

Continuous improvement of products and their consumer properties is one of NLMK’s priorities. The company consistently delivers new solutions that meet exacting customer requirements.
